I love to coordinate the wrapping paper to my tree colors! Do you do that too? The theme continues to the presents under the tree. Speaking of presents, my navy Christmas tree decorations do not stop with the tree. The ‘merry’ pillow was one of the DIY Christmas pillows we made a couple years ago. I found some navy velvet pillow cases at Hobby Lobby and they went perfectly with the navy velvet ribbon on the presents under the tree. Ha! But I thought they look really good though! They are really not antiques, I got them at Walmart. To complete the asymmetric look, I hung our stockings on one side and added some antique gold bells. I used some inexpensive regular faux garland and bulked it up with some greenery stems that I found at Hobby Lobby to make it look more realistic. I have seen this trend for the last couple years, but was not too keen on it initially. Speaking of garland, this asymmetrical greenery garland is another first for me. This is the first time I have used multiple wood bead garlands and I LOVE this look! I just used command hooks to attach the garlands in several places. I was able to add all three accent colors to the mantel by using some ornaments instead of candles on the candle holders. I really love the mixed wood tones of the different candle holders and wood bead garlands. I am usually all about symmetry! Ha! But I have to say that I adore this mantel this year! I am not sure if you guys realize how big this is for me. The placement of the embroidery hoops follow the line of the candle holders and add to the asymmetrical look of this mantel. I think they look so quaint and adorable! I just added some greenery and ribbon to the embroidery hoops. The wood tones from the tree carry through to the mantel with the candle holders, wood bead garlands and the embroidery hoops. Ha! Oh well, it still works and I am thinking of it as more of an abstract piece of art. Wonderful likes to use, he says he is not a perfectionist but he strives for excellence. However, I do have certain standards that I like my projects to have, and I felt like this one fell short. I am not sure what that says about me, I don’t fancy myself a perfectionist. As I shared in that post, I was not completely in love with this project and if I had more time, I would have probably re-worked it. The focus piece on the mantel is this DIY macrame wall hanging that I shared last week. I continued the macrame and wood theme with my mantel. What do you think?Ĭoordinate your Christmas tree and your mantel Although it is missing the color red which is commonly associated with those trees. I think it looks wonderful with the navy blue instead. With all these handmade ornaments and the minimalist look, it reminds me of a Scandinavian Christmas tree. I just tied them in half and set them on branches so it looks like they are knotted on the branch. Instead of putting ribbon around the this Christmas tree, I opted for a simpler look of some smaller strips of ribbon. I thought the navy color would mix beautifully with the cream and wood tones of the DIY macrame Christmas ornaments and DIY wood bead ornaments I made. In the living room, I went with navy Christmas ornaments on a natural green Christmas tree. I used navy, red and green colors for my overall decorating but decorated each Christmas tree focused more specifically on one color. I was a little cautious to go with a blue color palette for Christmas since I am not a huge fan of decorating with the color blue, although I do love navy blue! I think it is such a classic color and dresses up any decor. Just FYI… my worries were all for naught, that has not been the case AT ALL! In fact, there are so many decorated houses and businesses down here, that it has felt extra Christmas-like.Īfter much deliberation, I decided why not just go with all three colors? □ So that is what I did! I was just a bit concerned that since we would not have snow and cold weather for Christmas that it would not feel as Christmas-y here. Since we moved to Florida this year, I was conflicted on going with a blue color scheme to go with the Florida vibes or to go with a traditional red and green color palette to feel more like Christmas. Today I will be sharing my living room with mostly navy Christmas decor, although I threw in some red and green accents. I am excited to finally be sharing my Christmas decor with you all! This year I decorated two trees! One in the living room and one in the dining room. If you are missing the classic Christmas colors, throw a little red and green into the mix! This classy navy Christmas decor with macrame and wood bead accents is a fun twist on the Scandinavian Christmas look.

History/origin: The quart is based on the gallon, the definition of which has changed throughout history based on the commodity being referenced. In both the UK and the US, the quart is equal to ¼ of its respective gallon. In the UK, the imperial quart is equal to 1.136523. In the US, a liquid quart is equal to approximately 0.946353 liters and a dry quart is equal to approximately 1.101221 liters. Quartĭefinition: The quart (symbol: qt) is a unit of volume in the United States customary and imperial systems of measurement. It is also used to measure certain non-liquid volumes such as the size of car trunks, backpacks and climbing packs, computer cases, microwaves, refrigerators, and recycling bins, as well as for expressing fuel volumes and prices in most countries around the world. However, due to the mass-volume relationship of water being based on a number of factors that can be cumbersome to control (temperature, pressure, purity, isotopic uniformity), as well as the discovery that the prototype of the kilogram was slightly too large (making the liter equal to 1.000028 dm 3 rather than 1 dm 3), the definition of the liter was reverted to its previous, and current definition.Ĭurrent use: The liter is used to measure many liquid volumes as well as to label containers containing said liquids. History/origin: There was a point from 1901 to 1964 when a liter was defined as the volume of one kilogram of pure water under the conditions of maximum density at atmospheric pressure. One liter is equal to 1 cubic decimeter (dm 3), 1,000 cubic centimeters (cm 3), or 1/1,000 cubic meters (m 3). I've come to think of Ridiculous Fishing as the unofficial game of Wes Anderson's movie The Life Aquatic. There's nothing innately wrong with endless-runners, but it's a shame that the innovation is confined to the first few hours.īut these are minor criticisms, because in its least fun moments this is still better than most games. Once you've unlocked The Maelstrom, bought the Infinity Reel, and kitted yourself out with killer gear Ridiculous Fishing effectively becomes an endless-runner with online rankings. The deeper you manage to go the longer it takes to reach the surface again, and so the bite-size rounds get less and less bite-size as you improve - and, depending on your mood, less and less fun.Īnd the grinding only takes you so far. Despite the transformation the game undergoes, it still entails the same basic process: descend, ascend, shoot. Ridiculous Fishing seems fairly unexciting when you first boot it up, but it blossoms as you play, from a brittle pick-thin sapling of arbitrary grind into a thrumming, meticulously balanced garden of exotic flora that gets more and more exciting the deeper into it you go.Īt first you'll wonder what the point of its ridiculous three-stage fishing process is, but soon enough you'll find yourself playing it at two in the morning, trying to unlock the last of the power-ups and catch the last of the fish. You also have to physically play better, honing your swerving and dodging skills, learning how to time your saw bursts, and avoiding the score-sapping jellyfish both under and over the water.Īfter catching a certain number of species you open up new, deeper maps, necessitating longer lines, lamps to illuminate the abysmal depths, and more powerful guns to shoot the larger hauls out of the similarly expanding vault of the sky.ĭescending carefully all the way to the sea bed through colourful strata populated by increasingly exotic fish gets more satisfying and ethereal as your powers increase. Once you start to encounter the really expensive power-ups you need to knuckle down and start thinking strategically, not least by following the game's cult film-quoting advice to, "take dead aim at the rich fish". You're hauling so many fish into the air that you can't possibly shoot them all, so you go back to the shop to buy a bigger gun, which lets you earn more money, with which you can buy longer line, or a better lure, or a bigger fuel tank, or a tie (which lets you earn more money for your fish), or an even bigger gun, and so on, and so on, and so on. With the extra money this brings in you might buy a Chainsaw Lure, which lets you churn through sea animals until your fuel runs out.īut now you have a problem. After a few rounds you might decide to buy a longer line, allowing you to go deeper and catch more fish. You start with a basic line, lure, and gun. Being in the shop is as fun as being at sea. You tap the screen to cast your line, tilt your device to steer your plummeting lure around the assorted marine wildlife until you unavoidably hook something, steer again to catch as many fish as you can on the way back up, and then tap the screen to shoot the entire haul as it bursts out of the water and into the sky.Īt first, each attempt on the water is just a brief interlude that allows you to earn money to spend on equipment that will allow you to catch more fish next time. It all begins with a blocky little man holding a fishing rod over the side of a boat against a fairly unremarkable blocky backdrop. But every single round - up to a point - is more rewarding than the last. Every single round in Vlambeer's much-anticipated pixel-art casual game Ridiculous Fishing is the same. Democrats and Republicans differ over mask wearing, contact tracing, how well public health officials are dealing with the crisis, whether to get a vaccine once one is available, and whether life will remain changed in a major way after the pandemic. These fissures have pervaded nearly every aspect of the public and policy response to the crisis over the course of the year. Much of this American exceptionalism preceded the coronavirus: In a Pew Research Center study conducted before the pandemic, Americans were more ideologically divided than any of the 19 other publics surveyed when asked how much trust they have in scientists and whether scientists make decisions solely based on facts. Moreover, 77% of Americans said the country was now more divided than before the outbreak, as compared with a median of 47% in the 13 other nations surveyed. Brexit has polarized British politics, the rise of populist parties has disrupted party systems across Europe, and cultural conflict and economic anxieties have intensified old cleavages and created new ones in many advanced democracies. is hardly the only country wrestling with deepening political fissures. A month before the election, roughly eight-in-ten registered voters in both camps said their differences with the other side were about core American values, and roughly nine-in-ten – again in both camps – worried that a victory by the other would lead to “lasting harm” to the United States. Supporters of Biden and Donald Trump believe the differences between them are about more than just politics and policies. The 2020 presidential election further highlighted these deep-seated divides. The studies we’ve conducted at Pew Research Center over the past few years illustrate the increasingly stark disagreement between Democrats and Republicans on the economy, racial justice, climate change, law enforcement, international engagement and a long list of other issues.
